My bestfriend and I stayed at the Royal Courtyard for a couple of days during our first visit to New Orleans. Philip and David were both so kind. When you first arrive Philip goes into great detail of all the great places to eat. He even gives you a map. We never ate breakfast at the b&b because of all the great cafes that were recommended. Jacuzzi was great too! Very nice place. Because of the location from the French quarter and bourbon it's smart to take a cab back to the hotel late at night even though it's only a 10-15 min walk.

Had my mother-in-laws retirement dinner party at The Royal Courtyard and it was gorgeous!! Everything was setup so beautiful and the staff was amazing! Daisy and Noel made sure everything was perfect and all we had to do was show up. The dinner was delicious, we had Chicken Piccata, Marinated Beef with Herb Sauce, Mashed Potatoes and fresh Green Beans, with dinner rolls. And it was full service wait staff, which made socializing with guests so easy. The dance floor is awesome and they have a great sound system. There was also a cash bar for our guests, so everything we could ask for was provided! Definitely would use The Royal Courtyard again for my next event!!

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting NOLA! We never had the opportunity to meet David since he was sick, but I'm sure he is just as amazing as Phillip is. To start, the place itself is absolutely charming and definitely provides the New Orleans feel. The rooms are fantastic and there are several places you can sit and enjoy the outdoors. There is also a hot tub, which if you decide to enjoy they have the most amazing robes for when you get out. They literally have the softest most amazing sheets on the bed that my friend and I even went and purchased a couple for our homes! The RSC seems to be in the perfect place because you don't get all the noise (or smell) from Bourbon Street but are still a safe ten minute walk away and are two blocks from Frenchman Street, which has wicked good music and nice little bands where you can swing dance. If you don't feel safe, just take a cab and make sure they are charging you $2.50 + $1.00 per extra person. Some will try and get away with $2.00 per extra person or a higher rate. Next, Phillip went well above and beyond. You can tell he definitely wants his guests to enjoy their time, and he provided so many recommendations. We were literally set for the entire time. He provided us with a map and went over everything showing us more than enough restaurants/food, music, activities, and drinks to try. The food (we actually went with his favorites for each place) were some of the most amazing foods I've ever tried, and I couldn't believe how inexpensive all of it was. Mind you we went crazy eating all the seafood we could. Actually, all the places he recommended I will be giving 5 stars. To sum it up, if you want the whole package then this would be the place! It was friendly, informative, charming, and perfectly located.

I haven't stayed here yet, BUT we will. We ran into David, while stroling the neighborhood to check out the houses after eating breakfast at New Orleans Cake Café & Bakery. We had just seen and commented on his courtyard when he started up a conversation. He spent approx. 30 min. with us, giving us a historical tour of fantastic B & B as well as giving us great suggestions for dinner and live music tonight. Philip, the other owner was equally as gracious. Several other guests were there. They seemed as if they were enjoying themselves as well as commented on the great suggestions made by David for dinner. Anyone that would take the time, unplanned, to show us around has to be incredibly hospitable and is in the right business. Can't wait to stay here with my wife for a weekend getaway in the future. FYI...we found several little cool cafés in the area within walking distance for coffee, breakfast/lunch.

Phillip and David are gracious hosts who made us feel at home. They truly cared about making our time in New Orleans as pleasant as possible. Southern charm and hospitality are alive and well at this Bed and Breakfast!! The location is great, just outside of the French Quarter and a short walk to Frenchmen St, in a really cool and eclectic neighborhood that we might not have seen had we decided to stay in the French Quarter. We will definitely stay here again, if we ever make it back to the Big Easy.

I stayed with Phillip and David and their home and contributions enriched my stay. The welcome began with our first phone conversation, continued with our first meeting (during which Phillip spent half an hour showing me a map of New Orleans and making recommendations of things to eat, see, and do), and ended with a hug goodby on the porch. The house is very quiet, the tangerine sheets (loved them-I may have to get some for my own bedroom) were changed every day (I told Phillip that, coming from drought ridden California, I no longer expected them to be changed daily-he did it anyway). David and Phillip were always glad to stop for a chat or to answer questions. Phillip also gave me a business card with the house and his cell phone number written on it so that if I needed to I could call for help at any time. Should I at any time be lucky enough to come back (my husband may be retiring soon, so there is a possibility!), this will be the only place I would consider staying.

Just Fantastic! My girlfriend and I stayed here on a recent trip to NOLA and can't recommend it any higher. If 6 stars was an option I'd give it that. The owners Phillip and David are just great. As stated by many already, they gave tons of great recommendations on how to make your trip memorable. The property itself is gorgeous and as close as you'd want to be to Frenchman St. and the French Courter. There are also tons of hidden gems in the Marigny itself that they will point out to you. The rooms are spacious and clean, the house itself is massive yet inviting, and the owners really make you feel right at home. This was our first stay in a B&B and I must say that they really turned us on to the whole idea single handedly. Far superior to a chain hotel and it really allowed us to see a side of New Orleans that others probably never see. We will definitely be back! If you are coming to NOLA please give this place a try.....you won't regret it!

The entire building and rooms are gorgeous. For the price you are getting one hell of a deal. It is located very close to the French quarter so it's a nice location for Mardi Gras.

Prior to becoming a full-time resident of this fair city, I chose to stay at this wonderful B&B several times. It was the best place I ever chose to call home on those all too short trips to the city. Phillip and David are the best hosts and the house is incredible. I loved staying in one of the rooms that has the huge windows that open up to the outside balcony. Every morning I would grab a cup of coffee and some breakfast from downstairs and bring it up to eat overlooking the beautiful Marigny on another gorgeous NOLA morning. Bliss. As I previously stated, Phillip and David are amazing hosts and extremely helpful. If you haven't done your homework before heading into town, talk to these guys! They will lead you in the right direction with tips about great restaurants and nightlife options. The location is also perfect. The house is situated in the Marigny, around the corner from the delicious Cake Café and within walking distance to Frenchmen and the Quarter. The price of the rooms is incredibly reasonable and the experience is delightful. This is top on my list of recommended places to stay in NOLA!

What's not to love? Unless your allergic to cats, I can't imagine a reason to stay anywhere else in New Orleans. This place is beautiful, very clean, convenient to the quarter and Frenchmen, and reasonably priced. High ceilings, stained glass and wood carved doors, big bathrooms, private courtyard sprawling with gorgeous flowers and plants of all kinds, outdoor shower for after the hot tub if you like, lots of variety for breakfast and snacks, and a gorgeous neighborhood that is friendly and safely walkable. But none of that is as great as the owners. Phillip and David were so nice, available, and helpful with all suggestions being spot on. Their attention to detail around the house showed tremendous pride in their work. I will be back! I just hate that I can't bring my teenage son who is allergic to cats, because now I feel like I will be disappointed to stay anywhere else in New Orleans. What an incredible value!

I've always feared using B&Bs for their stodginess and pretense, but RSC is a comfortable and very pretty, yet informal, property run by two very warm and informative people with great wit. Only a short walk from Frenchman Street and the French Quarter, we were very happy getting the hell out of the tourist scrum and into an interesting, more organic neighborhood. I just left, and I want to go back!

Why would you stay anywhere else? This place is what everyone else has said: cozy, PERFECT location, reasonably priced. Plus, you'll be in a neighborhood where people actually live and maybe can learn a little about the culture. As Lor B said, don't give your money to an out-of-town chain hotel! I stayed there a couple of years ago for a landmark birthday, and organized a group to meet me. We had 6 rooms, I think, and all of us loved this place. The owners are awesome. Phillip texted us throughout our first night be make sure we were okay! My husband and I had one of the rooms with balcony access and it was glorious to have a cup of coffee or a drink on the balcony. The coffee served with breakfast is fantastic and the breakfast in general is just what you need: cereals and toast. You only need to get to lunch, where you're going to really start eating anyway. The rooms (I saw all of the ones our group had) are all individually decorated with nice furniture. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are good-sized. LOCATION: You don't know it yet, but you'd rather be near Frenchman Street than Bourbon Street (unless you're looking for sleazy strip clubs [and if you are, that's okay, just don't stay here]). Good restaurants are in every direction, including some awesome cafes (eat at the Cake Cafe! Best cupcakes, just YUM). You'll be stumbling distance to the many bars with live music along Frenchman. A slightly longer stumble (about 10-15 minutes) and you'll be in the French Quarter. You'll be near the French Market and a lot of interesting funky shops on Royal Street. Overall, this place is comfortable, quirky and very New Orleans.

Don't stay at a chain hotel, stay here instead - where else can you stay that is charming, cozy, convenient, clean and absolutely New Orleans classic? The property is well within walking distance of Frenchmen St. (fantastic bars with brilliant live music every night) as well as the Quarter. It took no more than a few minutes to walk to Frenchmen Street, and no more than 10-15 of lazy ambling to get to the French Quarter. I never felt at all unsafe when walking back and forth in the wee hours of the morning - though it can get atmospherically creepy, what with the old houses and tree-shaded walkways. Also just a block or so from Schiro's - the neighborhood hangout/restaurant (do not miss the bread puddin' with bourbon sauce)/laundromat/inn/wine and booze shop. If you're going to book a room, make sure you get one with access to the second floor balcony that faces the street. We'd booked room #10 - to get to the balcony, you go through a floor-to-ceiling window that you pull up. No typical french doors here, you get a nice arm workout pulling that heavy window up. Caveat: Room #10's bathroom is not ensuite - it's a few steps down the hallway, but no biggie. NOT a shared bath, it's just that room #10's bath is just down the hallway. The price is totally right: we paid less than $100 a night, and continental breakfast is free (hello, delicious coffee. Hello awesome cinnamon bread.) The hosts are adorable: Phillip is brilliant - helpful and charming, but not intrusive. He's a treasure trove of knowledge about where the good, non-touristy eats are at. Who is this good for? NOT for the party-hard, Bourbon Street nutbars. The RSC is in a quiet (and stunning. Gorgeous, gorgeous houses) residential neighborhood where you can sit out on the porch and chat with the residents and talk about...what else? Food and music.

We only stayed with Royal Street Courtyard for a single night, but we wish we could have stayed longer! It is ideally located in the Faubourg Marigny, a block away from a variety of cafes and restaurants--both old and new, funky and upscale--and within walking distance of the French Quarter. We loved our room--and especially enjoyed sitting on the balcony outside and taking in the smells and sounds of the neighborhood--and Philip was the perfect host--accommodating, informative, and fun to speak with. An excellent experience all around!

We cannot say enough wonderful things about this place and our stay here. It's in a perfect area of the Marigny, easy walk to Frenchman St and the French Quarter but not so close as to be insane in the evenings. The building is well outfitted, beautiful and quaint with comfortable accommodations. By far the best part of the experience are the inn's proprietors; Phillip spent 30 minutes with us upon arrival going over the map he had annotated for us with all of the best things to see, do and eat. Every recommendation of his we tried was stellar. We'll definitely be staying here when we go back!

When visiting the great city of New Orleans, instead of staying at a generic motel or hotel with no character you should without a doubt stay at the Royal Street Courtyard. I came to New Orleans for the first time this year for the annual Jazz Festival and fell in love with the city and this bed and breakfast. When you stay here you will feel like this is your home and you'll never want to leave. With the gorgeous and elegant New Orleans style balcony, porch, and architecture you will feel like a native. The cherry on top of this hot fudge sundae is the location. The Royal Street Courtyard is only six blocks away from the French Quarter, a 10-15 minute walk to Bourbon Street, and is surrounded by cool and unique shops, restaurants, and of course jazz. One of the reasons I like this place so much is because you are close enough to everything New Orleans has to offer, but when your done partying and "earning" your beads you can come back to Royal Street and enjoy a quiet nights rest. Having a hot tub is pretty sweet too. Lastly, the owners are super awesome, accommodating, knowledgeable about their city, and they make you feel at home. Whatever question we had, they answered. Whenever we wanted to do something, they had a suggestion for something to do. They are always available and they are extremely friendly. So, if you need a place to stay when you are in NOLA, look no further than the Royal Street Courtyard.

I cannot put into words how ideal of a b&b this is. The place has all of the beauty and charm one fantasizes about when imagining New Orleans. The owners, Phillip and David, are amazingly kind and cool. Often times when dealing with the owners of a B&B, I can be made to feel like I'm invading their space. Every time I bumped into Phillip or David, they only made me feel more at home. The location is perfect, a couple blocks from the french quarter and all the nightlife you could want, but quiet at the b&b itself. The rates are reasonable, and if there is any availability, you owe it to yourself to stay here. I feel like I have a new home away from home.

We've never had a better experience at any hotel, motel, or bed and breakfast in the entire United States! Our hosts were friendly, helpful, warm, courteous and went OUT OF THEIR WAY to make sure that we had a proper introduction to NOLA and left wanting to come back again and again and again! First of all.... if you are not sure what to do or where to start, Philip starts by giving you a VERY detailed map listing all the locations and hot spots that you MUST check out while you're there. Whats great is that its not all in the French Quarter... Frenchmen street is where you want to spend your time! Also, if you need help learning how to eat crawfish, bring a bag back and they'll show you how :) Rooms were clean, building was beautiful, many breakfast choices, VERY reasonable rates, AMAZING location...so close to the french quarter that we walked everywhere we went. We would never stay anywhere else in NOLA. Thanks for everything Royal Street Courtyard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We'll be back soon!

Highly recommend. Friendly host, quiet part of Marginy and walking distance to everything. We have been staying here for several years now, and have never been disappointed. Except when we leave!

Boyfriend and I stayed one night a the Royal Street Courtyard but wish we could have spent a week! Our large window opened onto a second floor street-facing balcony--perfect for a quiet evening drink or early morning coffe. The personal attention from innkeeper Phillip was very appreciated and helpful. As a result, we enjoyed a drink at a hip local bar and a lovely Cajun Italian dinner at a local restaurant, completely off the beaten French Quarter track. Yet the Quarter was only minutes away on foot. The RSC is located in a beautiful historic district with restored smaller homes and hip bars and cafes. Parking was on-street and free. Very good value and we recommend it without hesitation.

I travel to New Orleans a lot, for business and pleasure, over the past 30 years. I've stayed in hotels, B&B's, sublets... but this is the best place I've ever temporarily called home in the Big Easy. The location is perfect! Close enough to everything important that you can easily walk, bike, or take the streetcar anywhere you'll want to go. The house is beautiful... real old New Orleans style. The rooms are lovely and large, the beds comfortable, the house feline welcoming yet dignified, and your hosts are friendly, fun, knowledgeable and as hands-off (or on) as you want them to be. I left feeling like I'd made two new friends. Royal Street Courtyard is fabulous value for your money, and a taste of real New Orleans living (although in a lovelier setting than many real New Orleanians can afford). The neighborhood is beautiful, historic and safe. Can't think of a single reason NOT to stay here if you're visiting New Orleans for any reason. I will be recommending this place exclusively from now on!

We stayed at Royal Street Courtyard last month for our honeymoon. We had an amazing stay. The two proprietors were so helpful! The first morning as we headed out, I managed to spill coffee all over my white dress - they actually took it and treated it and when we came back from a day all over the city it was as good as new! Amazing service and beautiful neighborhood and home. We plan on many return stays!

If you are looking for a beautiful home in a chill neighborhood, this is the place to stay. It's close enough to the Quarter that you can walk into the lively nightlife if you want to, or stay close to your digs and take in the great music on Frenchman Street. Either way, when you go home to sleep you will not be disturbed by loud parties going on outside. Phillip gives an amazing orientation to the neighborhood (including the French Quarter and Garden District). I recommend that you check out the restaurants on his list - we had great meals because of his tips. The room was comfortable and clean, and the hot tub is tucked into a sweet garden - very relaxing after a long day and night of exploring New Orleans. We opted for a room with a bathroom inside but would have been just fine in another room where you have your own restroom down the hall. Fresh fruit and coffee was breakfast enough for us, but if you are a bagel-or-toast/cereal kind of person there is plenty of variety available. This is a great way to get a feel for the vibe of the city outside the party zone - Royal Street Courtyard is a neighborhood filled with full-time residents, and we really loved getting to know the city from this perspective. You can always wander onto Bourbon Street (which we did, several times) and check out the scene there, but going home to lovely accommodations was the way to go! We will definitely be returning. And thanks to Phillip and David for running a top-notch B & B - I am now spoiled and will hold all other owners to the high standard that you have set!

My boyfriend and I stayed here and loved loved loved it. Philip is such a great host and so knowledgable. It is a beautiful house and the room was gorgeous. It is located in a great area as well. Walking distance from Frenchman Street and Bourbon Street. So much fun. We had such a good time and will definitely stay there again when we get back to New Orleans (hopefully soon!!).

I adore the Royal Street Courtyard and its owners, Phillip and David. I discovered this place 3 years ago and my husband and I knew it was the only place we'd stay from then on. We've just returned from our 3rd stay there. The neighborhood is fantastic! Close to the Quarter, very close to Frenchman Street (my favorite area) but quite clean and quiet. The house is beautiful. A front porch with rocking chairs where you can relax and watch the neighborhood scenes. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the beds are great! Also, there's a hot tub in the back courtyard which is perfect any time of day or night! You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay here.

Had a fantastic stay at the Royal Street Courtyard. Staying in this 150 year old house was half the pleasure of my trip to New Orleans. When I'd had enough of touring around town I'd set myself up on the porch with a good book and a cold martini shaker. It's a few blocks walk from there to Frenchman street - which I'll take over Bourbon street any day of the week - and the french quarter is just beyond that. That said, I found more good food within a block of this place than in any of the hit or miss places I tried in the Quarter. The owner of the place literally spent an hour with me when I arrived to make sure I knew where all the good restaurants, coffee shops, voodoo dolls, etc were. Room rates here were not expensive. I can't wait to get back to New Orleans and will be staying here again when I do.
